Monice Receives 2008
Pathfinders Community Service Award |
Sabine
Monice has completed over 500 community service hours, many with the
American Red Cross. She began in 2004 as a chapter aid. Her
leadership abilities led to her being trained by the Red Cross in
International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and chosen chapter chair of the
2006-2007 prestigious Youth Council. In this capacity, Sabine was
charged with fundraising and awareness for the Measles and Malaria
Campaign, raising $2,300 in one month. She was reelected IHL chair
for 2007-2008 and has put together a PowerPoint presentation to
teach students about IHL and the Red Cross in other countries.
Sabine also serves on the chapter’s board of directors as a youth
member, and volunteers for her church.

and La Palma. These awards are presented each year to

Megan McCloud and Casey Ho Join Prestigious
Youth Leadership
Palm Beach County
Summit Christian School is proud to announce this year’s selections
for Youth Leadership Palm Beach County, Megan McCloud
and Casey Ho. This dynamic county-wide leadership
development program spans seven-months and is open each year
to only 45 High School Juniors. Students are selected
according to their outstanding leadership potential and
community mindedness.
Leadership
Palm Beach County, Inc., is an educational 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization designed to foster awareness of
community issues and promote efficient communication and
cooperative relationships between existing and emerging
community leaders. The Youth program targets teens who have
already demonstrated leadership ability and desire to
further develop their skills for future roles as community
leaders.
Both Megan
and Casey are thrilled to have been chosen to represent our
school this year. After hearing the details of the program,
Casey felt “privileged to be part of this program and
excited about the places we’ll get to go to and the
experiences we’ll be having”. Megan said it’s “awesome to
be representing Summit Christian School and is looking
forward to getting to see a lot of the things that people
don’t really get to see and growing as a leader”.
Casey and Megan attended the Ropes Course Retreat
at FAU and really enjoyed meeting students from other local
schools. The experience focused teamwork and bonding. Both
Casey and Megan felt that “during the course everyone
learned to care for each other and work together, regardless
of backgrounds or the schools that the other people came
from”.
We are
really looking forward to the influence that this pair of
young Summit Christian School leaders will have on their
peers when they complete this training. |

Summit Middle School
Teacher Mr. Wade Gill presented "Best Teacher Award"
Congratulations to Mr. Wade Gill
for receiving Dr. Lundsford’s Orthodontic Office’s “best
teacher award”. Mr. Gill was nominated by Victoria Lark, a
7th grade student from Summit Christian School.
The
opportunity to nominate Mr. Gill arose while Victoria was
sitting in the waiting room of Dr. Lundsford’s office. She
noticed the contest application form and immediately thought
of her favorite teacher, Mr. Gill. “Mr. Gill is a great
educator. Even if a kid is having a tough time, he gets
with them and sits down with them and spends time working
with them. And, when they’re going through a rough time or
just having a bad day, her encourages and guides them.
He’ll stop someone if they look upset and is always someone
you can talk to”, explained Victoria.
Victoria
first came to know of Mr. Gill’s compassion for kids, when
she was a 5th grader from another school and her
brother was in Mr. Gill’s 8th grade class. The 8th
graders were having a party and Victoria, a 5th
grader was invited by Mr. Gill to join her brother at the
class party. She said, “I thought it was really cool to be
included and it made me feel really happy”.
Now,
Victoria is able to see her favorite teacher every day, as
she in Mr. Gill’s 3rd hour Bible class. And, Mr.
Gill is the happy recipient of a $100.00 award from Dr.
Lundsford’s office. Thank you, Dr. Lundsford for creating
a wonderful way to recognize outstanding teachers. Way to
go Mr. Gill! |

McMaster, Trindade Selected for
Kravis Artscholars Program
Summit Junior Brittany
McMaster and Senior Melea
Trindade were selected to
the Artscholars program
at the Raymond F. Kravis Center
for the Performing Arts. This
program gives high school
students who have a strong
interest in the performing arts
greater insight into their
particular discipline by
attending dinner discussions
with special guest speakers and
personally meeting distinguished
artists who perform on the
Kravis Center’s stages.
Brittany and
Melea attended dinner at The
Cellar in City Place with a
Shakespearean expert and
director from Florida Atlantic
University. Later, they saw a
performance of Julius Caesar
by the Aquila Theatre Company at
the Rinker Playhouse. After the
show they met with the actors
for an informal discussion of
their performance.
Big Time
Restaurant Group generously
donates a full dining experience
for the students, while The
Myron and Natalie Stone
Ticketing Fund, established
in memory of Myron Stone,
provides students tickets to
performances.
Brittany and
Melea were two of six students
selected from among arts
students countywide. The other
students were from Dreyfoos
School of the Arts and G-Star
Charter School.
Congratulations
to Brittany McMaster and Melea
Trindade! |
