Summit Alumni Surprises
MS/HS Student Body with Special Chapel Concert |
Friday,
May 9, 2008 - In a special combined MS/HS service, several
members of the class of 2007's Praise and Worship Team led one
of the final chapel services of the 07-08 year in a surprise
performance. Several other alumni were present to support band
members senior Shamir Shirraz (drums), music director Eric Rios
(bass) and 2007 alumni Danny Cintron (lead vocal), J.J. Esquivel
(guitar) and Amos Pierre (keyboard). They shared in song and
through personal testimony about their recent year since
graduation. Danny confessed to having thought that he was pretty
'tight' with God when he graduated from SCS, but soon discovered
that his Abba
Father
still had much to teach him. "It was easy to praise and worship
God when my parents were always there when I needed something.
It was easy to praise and worship God when my cell phone bill
was paid. It was easy to praise and worship God when all my
needs were met. Newsflash: Faith and trust comes in when things
are not always as good as they should be." He continued to
relate
some
of the stresses and difficulties of college life, independence
and adulthood. "I lost my grandma back in the beginning of the
year. I was so very close with her, and in my life had never
before experienced anything like this. I really realized that
even though I could talk to my mom on the phone, God was my only
real comforter. I've cried at least 4 or 5 times this semester
alone because things just got so hard. Yet, God is faithful.
Yet, God is faithful." J.J. and Amos shared the same heartfelt
wisdom through the song, Wrap Me In Your Arms, giving the class
of 2008 profoundly simple, solid advi ce.
"When we try to handle it all on our own is usually when you're
weak and go to other things (for comfort or to cope). There is a
way! Faith and trust is going to the one who is always there...
our heavenly Father. Just like when you would go to your mom or
dad or someone you love and they wrap you up and you get that
aaaahhhhhhh (deep sigh) kind of feeling... go to a place with no
distractions where you can be alone with Him and let him wrap
His arms around you. That's the place where you're changed and
that's the place you belong." It was obvious to everyone that
the Spirit of the Lord was present, as Amos had pointed out.
Student Council President Sabine Monice was on her knees in
worship when J.J. asked the Seniors to come down to the floor
and for the teachers to come and circle around them in prayer as
the band continued to play. Take me to that place, Lord... to
that secret place where I can be with you and you can make me
like you... Wrap me in your arms...

Dear Alumni,
As
many of you know, I am be working with Mrs. Edith Hernandez
setting up “Alumni Destinations” every other year. Starting the
summer of ‘08, we will be taking our first trip to Greece. We
will be looking into a 8 – 10 day vacation, which will cost
approximately $2,700. We’ll be visiting the Greek Isles,
including beautiful Santorini, as well as historical Athens,
Mykonos, and many other parts of Greece. This trip will not be
your average “Tourist” trip. I’m trying to stay away from the
whole tour guide thing. You will have the opportunity to learn
about Greece through a tour guide, but it won’t be an every day
event. Most of the time will be free time to travel the islands
via moped or bike, or to just lounge by the water and take in
the scenery. The more Alumni we get, the better the chance to
get a better rate.
We will be
setting up accounts with the Business Office for each one of
you, so if you would like to start making payments toward your
trip, please send a check with whatever amount you can spare at
this point written out to SCS
with “Alumni
Destinations: Greece” written on the bottom
left. I will be sending out the Alumnus newsletter every month,
which will have little updates to fill you in on when $ is due
for airfare.
Please contact
me at
rmillner@summitchristian.com if you have any questions, or
if you are NOT receiving the “Alumnus Newsletter”.
Thanks, and I
look forward to being with all of you in Greece!
