It i
s the goal of the Summit Christian School Fine Arts Department to cultivate students' skills in their chosen areas of concentration and to provide them opportunities to use their artistic talents in a meaningful and Christ-honoring way. We desire to have our art students graduate knowing that they don't have to choose between pursuing a life of art or being successful, but that careers exist where their gifts can be used to earn a living and most importantly - to glorify God.

Summit Christian Beginning Band
C
omprised of students from the fourth-twelfth grade, this extracurricular group meets twice a week for after school rehearsals.  Students learn how to play a wind instrument typically used in a wind ensemble (brass, woodwind, and percussion).  The band is highlighted at our annual Christmas Stroll and the semi-annual elementary programs.  More advanced students are challenged with more difficult music and smaller ensemble playing.  Advanced students can participate with solos or ensembles in the FACCS (Florida Accreditation of Christian Colleges and Schools) Fine Arts Festivals.

Summit Christian Creative Photography
It is the goal of the Summit Christian School's Creative Photography course to discover and develop the inner creative through the study of photographic composition, creative subject matter and digital image manipulation. Students gain an understanding of the camera itself and the role light and lighting plays with obtaining a specified result.

Summit Christian Elementary School Choir
Comprised of students in the third, fourth, and fifth grades who love to sing, this extracurricular choir meets after school to learn a well rounded repertoire of rounds, part songs, traditional songs and newly composed songs.  The choir receives additional training in music reading, ear training, and vocal technique.  They perform in Chapel, school concerts, and other venues in the community. Each year the choir takes part in the FACCS Jr. Fine Arts Festival.

Summit Christian Elementary Music Class
Music is a fun and rewarding part of elementary education, giving memories to last a lifetime. Elementary music class is a fun class where students can enjoy making music.  Students learn about matching pitch, steady beat, rhythm ostinato, and other musical fundamentals by singing folk songs, spirituals, rounds and composed songs.  Students play rhythms on a variety of drums and percussion instruments.  They play beautiful melodies and ostinatos on xylophones and metallophones.  Singing games and dances are not only fun, but they teach students musical concepts while children play.  Older students love the challenge of learning new songs on the recorder.  They can earn a series of multi-colored “belts” to help them show their success.  As the grade level increases, so does the skill level.  The older grades play more challenging ensemble music.  Musical skill is then demonstrated as the students sing, play, act, and dance in two yearly elementary productions.

Summit Christian High School Choir
The High School Choir consists of approximately 24 members and has won the FACCS Fine Arts Competition. State Championship competition in the large choir category. This choir has a broad range of repertoire, from Baroque to Contemporary. The purpose of this choir is to set a foundation in music and to open young minds to the importance of music in the world today.

Summit Christian Junior High Choir
The Junior High Choir consists of at least 13 members and holds the 2007 district championship title. This choir also has a broad range of repertoire, from Baroque to Contemporary. The purpose of this choir is to prepare young singers for higher levels of achievement and to gain an intellect about music.

Summit Christian Singing Choir
Established in 2002, the Singing Saints offers a mature venue in vocal chamber music for advanced students in grades 9 - 12. This auditioned ensemble joins the Concert Choir and the High School Choir in providing a broad and varied choral experience for students at Summit. The repertoire of the group includes secular and sacred vocal literature.

The Singing Saints have had much success in the FACCS (Florida Accreditation of Christian Colleges and Schools) Fine Arts Competition. This ensemble has won many state championships and has advanced to the national competition representing the state of Florida. Along with the high level of competition, the Singing Saints have been featured on local radio stations.

Summit Christian Theatre
The Secondary School Theatre Department presents several productions each year. It is comprised of secondary school students that have a love for all aspects of theatre arts. Whether on stage or backstage, the department strives to provide a positive environment that encourages creative learning styles. They also participate in the many various FACCS competition categories on both Senior and Junior High levels. Once they have placed in the Superior category they move on to compete on state/national levels. Throughout the year, many life-long friendships are built, team-building skills learned and God is glorified.

Summit Christian Visual Arts
Students in the Visual Arts program at Summit Christian School gain experience in a variety of media and techniques such as acrylic painting, relief printing, still-life and figure drawing, papier-mâché, sculpture and collage. Emphasis is placed on the elements and principles of design so that students can learn not only how to produce successful artwork, but also how to analyze and discuss art from all historical periods, genres, and schools of thought. Students take part in both formal and informal discussions about major artists' work, their influences on art and how to have  Christ-centered approach to the art world. In addition, students practice reading and writing about art critically with relevant in and out-of-class assignments based on professional art criticism and journalism.

Student participating in this program are also involved in the set design for many of the productions put on by the Theatre department. Art students play a key role in interpreting the play's theme visually and ultimately designing and constructing a set, props and even costume elements such as headpieces for the production.

The Visual Arts department consists primarily of students in grades 6-12 and have received numerous state and national awards. For the first time in Summit’s history, a first place trophy was awarded in 2005 at the American Association of Christian Schools National Fine Arts competition in Greenville, South Carolina to former student Ashley Somogyi, who is the founder of the Ashley Somogyi Award.

Summit Christian Secondary School Worship Teams
The Junior High Worship Team was established during the 2007-2008 school year. This is a non-competing group, since FACCS does not have a category for this style of music. The group was initiated to provide opportunities for Junior High students to play music in a worship setting for our chapels. It is a student-led group who uses their talents to honor and glorify our heavenly Father.

The High School Worship Team is an entirely student led group who fully uses their talents for the glory of God. It is an auditioned and interviewed group that not only leads the student body in worship, but also must display spiritual leadership at all times through their daily testimony. The HS Team is also a non-FACCS competing group, as FACCS does not have a category for this style of music.

Summit Christian Yearbook
Implemented into the optional curriculum courses for the high school, this course offer juniors and seniors an opportunity to learn and utilize graphic design technologies and sharpen their English and communication skills under specific deadlines, giving the students the satisfaction of seeing a finished product. The Yearbook Staff captures photographs, interviews students, covers on and off-campus events, writes informative and entertaining stories, conducts surveys and wraps it all up into a beautiful hardbound book that documents the school year. Students use graphic design principles and learn the history and practical application of typography in publishing. The staff strives to create a book that is complete as well as unified in theme and style from beginning to end. All of this is accomplished while students learn how to be responsible leaders and group members of a creative team.
