Early Learning
Development Center Curriculum for All Ages |
Infants & Toddlers: The Wee
Learn Curriculum Guide is used for Infant and Toddler classes. This
Curriculum helps provide guidance and activities in each unit to
help the child develop their verbal and social skills appropriate
for this stage of development. Also inclusive are the spiritual,
physical, mental and emotional areas which provide a balanced
program of early childhood education for the youngest children in
our program. This Curriculum is developed around themes which
provide opportunities for the infants and toddlers to learn about
God, Jesus, the Bible, the Church, self, family, others and the
natural world. Teachers are encouraged to use the activities in
this guide to plan activities which will meet the specific needs and
interest of each child.
Enhancements to
this Curriculum also include music & movement, hands-on arts &
crafts, storytime, sign-language, Spanish and outdoor buggy rides or
playground time
(based upon their age.)
|
Twos: The A Beka
Curriculum is used for all of our students from twos through K-4.
Specifically in our two-year-old program “Numbers & Skills with
Button Bear” activity book is used that helps the children sharpen
their listening skills, follow directions, and practice eye-hand
coordination as they learn number concepts one through fifteen. The
Button Bear Learning Guide also has another activity book for arts &
crafts which gives children of this age opportunities to develop
their motor skills. Included in these projects are concepts that
correlate not only with basic arts & crafts but also with academics,
Bible teaching, seasons and holidays. For additional emphasis on
their coloring, painting and tracing to help develop their
fine-motor skills, we also incorporate the “Child Art for 2s”
enhancement book. Also as a part of the A Beka Curriculum, we
incorporate the Daily Bible Curriculum, language development, poetry
and musical instruction.
Our Learning
Centers are an important means to develop their social, verbal and
cognitive development through role-play, sharing and interaction
with one another. Additional enhancements also include Nutrition, a
fire-safety program called “Learn Not to Burn”, Science class, Spanish, Chapel, Prayer, Sign-Language and the
study of Community Helpers.
|
|
Outdoor play is
vital to children of all ages for growth and development. The
students have both
morning and afternoon playground time (for the
infants, buggy rides)
to help
develop healthy bodies, coordination and gross motor skills. |
Threes: As
indicated above, the A Beka Curriculum expands their program for the
three-year-old students to include “Letters & Sounds” which is a
beginning alphabet book for young learners. Each new letter is
introduced by an animal alphabet friend that helps the children
recognize the letter as well as learn the letter’s sound. Each
animal has a song in the curriculum lesson plans that helps
reinforce the sound learned. “Letters & Sounds” is also designed to
teach early writing skills. The children learn letter formation and
practice eye-hand coordination as they glue items to the letter
shape, or paint and trace the letters. The Curriculum resource
workbooks, “Child Art for 3s” and “Number & Skills with Button
Bear”, are used to develop their creativity, fine-motor skills and
number concepts. Our Bible Curriculum is used daily with visuals of
Bible stories from the Old Testament and New Testament. Prayer,
Chapel and song-time are an important part of the Bible teaching as
well. It prepares the minds and hearts of the children for the Word
of God and giving praise to Him for all things.
Our variety of
Learning Centers continues to enhance our curriculum teaching with
role-playing of Community Helpers, family environment, library and
science discovery. Also included in their activities is the
importance of Health & Nutrition, Sign-Language, Spanish, Music and
Arts & Crafts and Science class.
|
K-4: Our K-4 A
Beka Curriculum broadens the language development teaching in the
areas of phonics, reading and writing. With the use of miniature
alphabet cards, writing and readiness skills workbooks, most of the
students are able to read by the end of the year and understand the
concepts of their vowels, consonants and blend words. The ability
to work in small reading groups with the students brings great
results of accomplishment to each child. Additionally to the K-4
Curriculum is the “Phonics & Numbers” workbook that challenges the
student in areas of letter and number recognition, blends, counting
and mathematical concepts. The Bible Curriculum is also used in
daily teaching as well as teaching the importance of prayer
and a
personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Praise and Worship Music
is sung and heard daily but especially enjoyed when they attend
Chapel once a week in the gym. Music and
PE are also K-4
favorites.
The Learning
Centers in the K-4 Program include the following: Computer Center,
Home-Living, Science & Discovery, Library, Blocks & Transportation,
Games/ Manipulatives and Art. Also included in our varied
activities is Spanish,
Community Helpers and the importance of good manners. Educating our
children about Health & Nutrition and Fire Safety are also
enhancement Curriculums used on a daily basis.
