History
Summit Christian School opened its doors under the name of New Hope Christian Academy in September of 1972, and has been in continuous operation since that time. In February of 1974, Calvary Baptist Church purchased and began operating the school. The school’s name was changed to Summit Christian School in August of 1974, and is now it’s own 501(C)(3) entity.

In 1987, the school purchased an additional three and one-half acres contiguous to the existing ten-acre campus to allow for future growth. In 1989, the preschool was enlarged and expanded to include infants (six-week-olds) through children three years of age. This program is housed in our beautiful 10,500 square foot Preschool Center, located on the west side of the campus. It can accommodate over 200 children of this age group.

In February of 1994, property was purchased on the corner of Haverhill Road and Summit Boulevard (over 4 acres), bringing the total campus size to nearly 19 acres.

The Enochs Center, our gymnasium / multipurpose building, in April of 2003. This facility houses classrooms on the upper level and a beautiful gymnasium used for athletics, chapels, assemblies and programs.

Phase I of a master site plan has been submitted and approved by Palm Beach County which includes future upgrades such as classrooms, additional land, paving, a recreational building and athletic field space. This site plan is incorporated into a capital campaign designed to move the school to the next level of excellence. The future of Summit Christian School continues to progress as the Lord opens doors and leads our pathway.

Christian Because
Summit Christian School is a private, non-denominational, not-for-profit Christian School. The purpose of Summit Christian School is to provide a distinctive quality Christian education founded on the principle that Jesus is our Savior and the source of all truth. We expand this principle and show how this truth can be applied in all facets of life.

In every subject, the instructors attempt to show the Lord’s place - in history, science, math, English, etc. In history, man is viewed as God’s creation whose past actions can only be interpreted as being right or wrong in light of man’s greatest history book - the Bible. Science, too, starts with man’s origin and presents God’s creation in six literal twenty-four hour days as the only intelligent beginning. Some basic concepts of God cannot really be understood until the study of math is undertaken. In geometry, a circle illustrates God in that it has no beginning and no end. In English, death can be viewed by a Christian as a comma - a short pause with more to come, not as the final punctuation mark, the period. The Bible is taught in every grade with an emphasis on the lost state of man and man’s need for salvation and continued growth in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The school strives to achieve a level of academic excellence which will enable the graduate to be well prepared for whatever future he may choose, whether it would be further training in college or in vocational aspirations.

SCS is fully accredited by the Florida Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (FACCS), the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS), and is a member of the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) and Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA).

Our faculty members maintain the highest standards of excellence. All are certified through FACCS and they attend seminars and enrichment programs throughout the year to continue their educational growth such as the Philosophy of Education Course and local college master degree programs. They are dedicated to providing a caring, Christian environment to nurture the spirit as well as the mind.

Christian Philosophy
Christian philosophy sees all things in their relationship to Jesus Christ. Truth can be fully known and rightly understood only in the light of its relationship to God in Christ, for in Him, who is Truth, are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. God gives evidence of Himself in His works, for “...of Him, and through Him, and to Him are all things...” (Romans 11:36) Therefore, a study of “all things” in light of God’s revelation is the crux of a Christian philosophy of education.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to impact students for God’s Kingdom:
To teach them to think critically and Biblically, to act morally and responsibly, while providing an environment that gives them security,
significance, and opportunity.

Purpose
1. To lead students to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior
2. To assist parents to provide a Christian Education for their children spiritually, morally, physically, academically
and socially to the highest degree of his/her capabilities under God
3. To encourage children and parents to become rightly related to the ministry of a local Bible believing
    evangelical church

Statement of Faith
In order to give a clear understanding of the fundamentals of the Christian faith for which Summit Christian without exception stands, we include in this handbook our “Statement of Faith.”
  1. We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, inerrant, authoritative Word of God. (II Tim. 3:16)
  2. We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Gen. 1:1; John 10:30; John 4:24)
  3. We believe in the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ (John 10:33); in His virgin birth (Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:23; Luke 1:35); in His sinless life (Heb. 4:15, 7:25); in His miracles (John 2:11); in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood (Eph. 1:7; Col. 1:14); in His bodily resurrection (John 11:25); in His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Acts 1:11); and in His personal, imminent return in power and glory. (Rev. 18:11-16)
  4. We believe that all men are sinful by nature (Rom. 3:23; 5:8) and as such at enmity with God and therefore regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential to their salvation. (Rom. 3:19)
  5. We believe that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ and that only by God’s grace through faith alone are we saved. (Acts 13:38-39)
  6. We believe that Satan is a person and that hell is a place of eternal conscious punishment of all unsaved. (Job 1:6-7; Matt. 25:46) (Rev. 20:14-15)
  7. We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, makes believers children of God through the new birth, assuring them of heaven, and by His indwelling enables Christians to live a godly life. (John 16:8; I Cor. 3:16; I Cor. 12:13)
  8. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:28-29)
  9. We believe that the Body of Christ consists only of those who are born again (John 3:3), for whom Christ now makes intercession in heaven (Heb. 7:25), and for whom He shall return. (John 14:3)
  10. We believe in Christ’s “Great Commission” to the Church to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature, baptizing and teaching those who believe. (Matthew 28:19 - 20)

Absences
The enrollment contract is made by parents to reserve a place in the school for their child. Therefore, there can be no refunds or allowances for absences. In the case of an absence due to illness for a period of a month or more, an arrangement can be made to withdraw the child temporarily. This, however, must be done in writing to the director and with written notice from the attending physician.

Spiritual Awareness and Character Building
Daily devotions (“Blessings for Little Ones”), prayer, pledges to the American Flag, Christian Flag and the Bible will be the start of each day. The children will be taught Bible stories from both the Old and New Testaments. Practical Christianity will be emphasized in all aspects of the school program.

Health Department Requirements for Admission to a Child Care Center
The Florida Department of Health requires the Preschool to have on file the following documents for each child:

1. Health History Form
    A. A Health History and Medical Examination must be on file for each child. This must be done by an attending
physician and only the Physical Form 3040 (yellow form) is acceptable. The physical is good for two (2) years.
    B. A Certificate of Immunization - Form 680, Part B (blue form). This form must be obtained from a private physician
or the Palm Beach County Health Department. Your child’s vaccination schedule is recommended as follows by
the American Academy of Pediatrics and must include these immunizations:
        * Birth = Hepatitis B
        * 2 months = DPT (diphtheria - tetanus - pertussis); Oral Polio Vaccine; HIB
        * 4 months = DTP; Oral Polio Vaccine; HIB; Hepatitus B
        * 6 months = DTP; HIB
        * 15 months = Measles Vaccine; Rubella Vaccine; Mumps Vaccine; HIB
        * 18 months = DTP Booster; Oral Polio Booster; Varciella; Hepatitus B
        * 4-6 years = DTP Booster; Oral Polio Booster, MMR
        * 14-16 years (and every 10 years thereafter) = Tetanus and Diphtheria Booster
        * Varivax = Chicken Pox
2. Birth Certificate (certified copy).
3. An Emergency Medical Authorization Form signed by parent(s) (notarized)
4. Alternate Nutrition Plan Agreement, signed by parent(s)
5. Child Care Facility Brochure Statement, signed by parent

Please note again the items that the Florida Health Department require for admission. Remember, your child’s immunization must be up-to-date at the time of entrance. However, while enrolled, if your child is due for another immunization, this must be done within the required date noted on the prior record. If these records become outdated, then your child may not return to school until the proper immunizations are made current. If there is some physical reason why your child cannot be given a shot, then a doctor’s note must be provided as to the reason AND when the next immunization will be given. This is for your child’s protection as well as for the protection of the other children in the school.

The Preschool’s Communicable Disease Policy is in this handbook. Please review this information carefully. SCS Preschool employees follow the guidelines established for its employees in the OSHA “Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens” rule. A copy of our written policy is available upon request.

Health Care
When a child is absent, we ask for notification from the parent stating the reason for the absence and the dates of the absences. If illness is the reason, we must know the type of illness. A release from the attending physician is required if the illness is highly communicable or very serious.

If a child requires medication, we are allowed to administer it to him/her only if the following requirements are met:
A. An SCS medication release form must be signed by the parent, stating the name of the child, the name of the
prescription medication, dosage and times to be given.
B. Medication must arrive at school stored in the original prescription container.
C. If any nebulizer treatments must be administered, we ask that it be done by the parent or legal guardian when
possible. Staff will administer treatment if parent or legal guardian is unable to come.

Notify SCS immediately if the student or another member of his family has contracted a serious communicable disease.

Colds, Fever, Behavior Patterns
The health and well-being of your child is of primary importance to us. If a child has a contagious cold, fever, flu, etc., he/she may not be brought to school. For the protection of all concerned, a child with a common cold is requested to be absent at least two or three days during the most contagious period. No child is permitted in school who has:
A. Significant elevation of temperature (above 100 degrees rectal temperature or 99 degrees oral temperature).
B. Skin rash - undiagnosed or not under treatment.
C. Inflamed and/or infectious eyes (conjunctivitis/pink eye, etc.). Child may not return until discharge is cleared up.
D. Sore throat.
E. Vomiting or diarrhea.
F. Please note: A child should be without fever, vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
If the fever is attributable to a non-contagious illness, the child may return the next day. If your child needs to
go to the doctor for any illness, a doctor's release note is required to return to school.

These standards are set by the Health Department and SCS Preschool must comply with these rules. If a child becomes ill at school, he/she will be made comfortable in an isolated area while waiting for his/her parents to arrive. Parents should make arrangements for someone to pick up the child within an hour after the contact is made.

Parents should inform the teacher or director of any irregularities or upsets in the child’s routine. Such things as the hospitalization of another member of the family, the death of a member of the family or a family pet; the extended absence of someone dear to the child or involvement in an accident.

Any other things which might cause a change in the child’s behavior or mood should be explained so that the staff might pray for your child and endeavor to make any allowances necessary for the child’s emotional welfare.

Summit Christian Preschool Communicable Disease Policy
Our Preschool strives to maintain a healthy school environment by instituting controls designed to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. The term “communicable disease” shall mean an illness which arises as a result of a specific infectious agent which may be transmitted either directly or indirectly by a susceptible host, infected person or animal to another person.

A teacher or administrative official who reasonably suspects that a student or employee has a communicable disease shall immediately notify the preschool director. The reportable diseases include the following:

Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), Aids Related Complex (ARC), Amebiasis, Animal Bite of Humans by a potentially rabid animal, Anthrax, Botulism, Brucellosis, Campylobacteriosis, Chameroid, Dengue, Diptheria, Encephalitis, Giardiasis (acute), Gonorrhea, Granuloma Inquinale, Hasen’s Disease (Leprosy), Hemorrhagic Fevers, Hepatitis, Histoplasmosis, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Legionnaire’s Disease, Leptospirosis, Lymphogranuloma Venereum, Malaria, Measles (Rubeola), Meningitis, Meningococcal Disease, Mumps, Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, Pertussis, Pesticide Poisoning, Plague, Poliomyelitis, Psittacosis, Rabies, Relapsing Fever, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, R. Rickettsia, Rubella including congenital, Salmonellosis, Schistosomiasis, Shigellosis, Smallpox, Syphilis, Tetanus, Toxoplasmosis (acute), Trichinosis, Tuberculosis, Tularemia, Typhoid Fever, Typhus, Vibrio Cholera, Vibrio Infections, Yellow Fever.

Any student or employee with a communicable disease for which immunization is required by law or is available, shall be temporarily excluded from school while ill and during the recognized periods of communicability. Students and employees with communicable disease for which immunization is not available shall be excluded from school while ill. If the nature of the disease and circumstances warrant, our school may require an independent physician’s examination of the student or employee to verify the diagnosis of communicable disease. (The School reserves the right to make all final decisions necessary to enforce its communicable disease policy and to take all necessary action to control the spread of communicable diseases within the school.)

Head Lice
South Florida, with its tropical climate, lends itself to the common problem of head lice among children. After examination, any student found to be affected will be sent home for treatment. It is each parent’s responsibility to check the hair of their own children on a daily basis. It is expected that a child sent home to be treated along the lines outlined below will be successful in ending any cases. Students may return to school after treatment/inspection of the hair/scalp show elimination of the lice.

Nit removal is the step many parents fail to do completely or postpone too long. Nit removal is a painstaking, time-consuming, and often frustrating task. Nits do not come off easily; each must be snagged firmly by fingernails or lice comb, slid down the hair shaft and removed. Just remember this: one remaining nit that hatches will soon lay eggs and you’ll have to go through the procedure again! For this reason, we must enforce a “No Nit Policy.” Your pharmacist can recommend a suitable shampoo for you and the correct procedure for use. Remember these three steps:
     • Shampoo Vigorously     • Rinse Thoroughly     • Comb Carefully

Head lice is no reflection in any way upon a person’s personal hygiene or cleanliness. This condition is found wherever large groups gather and can be picked up in any place upon contact with a person having such a condition. Please check your child daily to help us keep this under control.

Some prevention hints:
• Warn children not to lend their comb or brush to anyone or to borrow barrettes, hair ribbons, etc.
• Keep hats, scarves and so forth in book bags instead of on a shelf next to others.
• Check and launder child’s sweaters, sweatshirts and jackets.
• Advise your child not to share other children’s hats, sweaters, sweatshirts, earphones, headphones,
  sports headgear or sleeping bags.

If you purchase or receive new clothing for your child, wash it (and clothing retrieved from lost-and-found) before wearing.

The Preschool Day
Although the facility is open from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM, it is not mandatory for any child to be present for all of those hours. Times of arrival are flexible to suit the needs of the child’s family. Because of this flexibility, any day the child is in school for five hours or more will be considered a full day’s attendance. All curriculum material will be included between the hours of 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM. Please understand that if your child arrives after 8:30 AM, the teacher cannot go back to a subject or activity that may have already been covered that morning.

Curriculum for All Ages
Infants and Toddlers -
The Wee Learn curriculum guide is used for Infant and Toddler classes. This curriculum helps provide guidance and activities in each unit to help the child develop their verbal and social skills appropriate for this stage of development. Also inclusive are the spiritual, physical, mental and emotional areas which provide a balanced program of early childhood education for the youngest children in our program. This curriculum is developed around themes which provide opportunities for the infants and toddlers to learn about God, Jesus, the Bible, the Church, self, family, others and the natural world. Teachers are encouraged to use the activities in this guide to plan activities which will meet the specific needs and interests of each child. Enhancements to this curriculum also include music and movement, hand-on arts and crafts, storytime, sign-language, Spanish and outdoor buggy rides or playground time based upon their age.

Twos - The A Beka curriculum is used for all of our students from twos through K4. Specifically in our two year old program Numbers and Skills with Button Bear activity book us used that helps the children sharpen their listening skills, follow directions, and practice eye-hand coordination as they learn number concepts one through fifteen. The Button Bear Learning Guide also has another activity book for arts & crafts which allows children to develop their motor skills while, at the same time, correlates concepts with academics, Bible teaching, seasons and holidays. For additional emphasis on coloring, painting and tracing to help develop their fine-motor skills, we also incorporate the Child Art for 2’s enhancement book. As a part of the A Beka curriculum, we also incorporate the Daily Bible curriculum, language development, poetry and music instruction.

Our Learning Centers are an important means to develop their social, verbal and cognitive development through role play, sharing and interaction with one another. Additional enhancements also include nutrition, a fire-safety program called “Learn Not to Burn”, a specialized Science class, Spanish, chapel, prayer, sign-language and the study of community helpers.

Threes - As indicated earlier, the A Beka curriculum expands their program for the three-year-old students to include Letters & Sounds which is a beginning alphabet book for young learners. Each new letter is introduced by an animal alphabet friend that helps the children recognize the letter as well as the letter’s sound. Each animal has a song in the curriculum lesson plans that helps reinforce the sound learned. It is also designed to teach early writing skills as children learn letter formation and practice eye-hand coordination by tracing, painting or gluing items to letter shapes. Child Art for 3’s and Numbers & Skills with Button Bear resource books are used to develop creativity, fine-motor skills and numbers concepts. Our Bible curriculum is used daily with visuals of Old and New Testament Bible stories. Prayer, chapel and song-time during Bible teaching prepare the minds and hearts of the children for the Word of God and giving praise to Him for all things.

Our variety of Learning Centers continues to enhance our curriculum teaching with Home Living (role-playing of community helpers, families), Library, Science Discovery, Manipulatives (puzzles and games), Blocks & Transportation, Arts & Crafts (including paint easels) and the Computer Station. Their activities also include the importance of Health and Nutrition, Sign Language, Chapel, Spanish, a specialized Science class, Music, Arts & Crafts.

Fours - The K4 ABeka curriculum broadens the language development teaching in the areas of phonics, reading and writing. With the use of miniature alphabet cards, writing and readiness skills workbooks, most of the students are able to read by the end of the year and understand the concepts of their vowels, consonants and blend words. The ability to work in small reading groups with the students brings great results of accomplishment to each child. Additionally to the K4 curriculum is the Phonics & Numbers workbook that challenges the student in areas of letter and number recognition, blends, counting and mathematical concepts. The Bible curriculum is also used in daily teaching as well as teaching the importance of prayer and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Praise and Worship Music is sung and heard daily but especially enjoyed when they attend Chapel once a week in the gym. Students must be present by 8:30 a.m. on Chapel days. PE is also a favorite of our K4 students along with Spanish, Science, Art and Sign Language.

The Learning Centers in the K4 program include the following: Computer Center, Home-Living, Science & Discovery, Library, Blocks & Transportation, Games/Manipulatives and Art. Included in our varied activities is a specialized Science class, Spanish, community helpers and the importance of good manners. Educating our children about “health nutrition” and “fire safety” are also included enrichment curriculums that teach the students about the importance of healthy eating and exercise as well as learning about fire safety rules.

Outdoor play is vital to children of all ages for growth and development. The students have both morning
and afternoon playground time to develop healthy bodies, coordination and gross motor skills.

Breakfast
We all know the importance of beginning our day with a balanced breakfast. Obviously, the infant and toddler rooms are feeding the babies according to the child's individual schedule. However, once they are in the two's and above, we prefer their breakfast be given at home because they are very active from the moment they arrive and prefer to play rather than eat. Early arrivals may eat the breafast you provide, but we ask that it be kept very quick and easy (i.e., nutritional bars, fruit, cheese sticks, peanut butter toast, yogurt, etc.)

Lunches and Snacks
For the infants, baby food, bottles and snacks must be provided from home and be clearly labeled. All formula bottles and formula cereals must be premixed at home. We can only warm up these items, not mix the ingredients. All milk and juices must be brought in to school in the original store container (quart size) with a visible expiration date or in a ready-made bottle with a cap. Also acceptable are individual juice boxes or half-pint size servings.

All children have the option of bringing a lunch and a drink from home or purchasing their lunch from the cafeteria. Due to parental snack preferences and allergy concerns, all snacks need to be provided by the parents. A pitcher of water is kept available in the classroom. It is extremely important that your child’s name be printed clearly on the outside of his or her lunchbox and also on any containers inside the lunchbox. Please do not send any soda, candy bars, glass jars or bottles. Please limit the amount of candy and chocolate in lunchboxes. Be certain that the Preschool is notified of any food allergies your child may have.

Lunch Orders
Our cafeteria program is catered. You have the option of ordering your child’s lunch by completing the order form provided weekly. The hot order selections must be ordered one week in advance. Menus will be sent home, posted in the lobby, on the information board and on our website at www.summitchristian.com

Clothing
It is recommended that boys and girls wear washable play clothes which will allow them to play freely without worry of getting dirty. Girls may wear shorts, but must not wear a halter or half-top. A shirt, blouse, or T-shirt is acceptable. If dresses are worn, shorts must be worn underneath.

Each child should bring an extra set of clothing (except shoes) in a plastic zip-loc bag to be kept at school in his or her cubby for emergency use. Please remember to label this clothing with your child’s name.

For safety reasons we ask that you do not permit your child to wear cowboy boots, sandals or any open-toed shoes to school. Children must wear socks at all times. Sneakers are the shoe of preference.

Bedding and Naptime
Toddlers through K4 children have a daily afternoon rest period. The school will provide mats; however, you will need to provide a small towel or fitted crib sheet to cover the mat (this also needs to be marked with your child’s name). This cover is to be taken home each Friday to be laundered and returned on the following Monday.

For children who are infants, they will have their own crib and will sleep according to their individual schedule. All crib sheets will be provided by the school. Blankets and personal (non-sharing) toys to remain in the crib are provided by the parents and must be marked with the child’s name.

Toys
Please refrain from sending in toys with your child each day. We have so many choices for them here and they understand the concept of sharing much easier than an toy brought from home. However, there may be days for “Show & Tell” opportunities and your child’s teacher will let you know in advance. Please keep in mind, toys that look like weapons (guns, knives, swords, etc.) are not permitted.

Please be aware that only videos and DVD’s that meet the teachers approval and have a "G" rating may be shown, so please do not send any in with another rating.

Pictures
Please bring two wallet-sized photographs or snapshots of your child the first week of school - one for your child's application and one for the teacher. Once a year, a professional photographer will take pictures of the children which will be offered to you for your purchase.

Birthdays
Birthdays may be celebrated with store package refreshments, provided by the parents. Please make these arrangements in advance with your child’s teacher for the day of celebration and any festivities you would like to plan for your child and the class. Again, please remember, any foods brought in for the class must be store bought items per Health Department regulations.

Visits and Conferences
Occasional and brief unannounced drop-in visits are welcome, as long as there is no undue disruption to the student, the class or the staff. Visitors and parents are also welcome to make an appointment to visit our school for a tour between the hours of 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM. Conferences with the director or teacher may also be made by appointment to discuss your child’s progress and development.

If you need to call your child’s teacher during the hours of 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM, please leave a message with the receptionist and the teacher will return your call as soon as possible, most likely at nap time. If it is an emergency, please make us aware how the preschool can help.

Supervised Playground Time
The children have playground activity both in the morning and afternoon. Playground time objectives:
A. To give the children an opportunity to develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally
B. Provide for gross motor development
C. Teach safety habits
D. Use creativity in play
E. To enjoy sunny Florida year round

Signing In” and “Signing Out”
This policy is of the utmost importance. Each day when arriving at school, the parent or an adult pre-authorized by the parent (in writing) must sign the child in by using the parent’s full name; the same applies when a child is removed from school. In all instances, the time must be indicated on the Sign-in/Sign-out sheet. Failure to comply with this rule can result in a $5.00 charge per instance.

Campus Traffic Procedures
Anyone driving on campus grounds is required to obey SCS Traffic Rules: 5 MPH speed limit, adhereance to the designated drop-off and pick-up points, following the direction of all traffic assistants and traffic patterns. They are also required to display the Identification Card for access through security. SCS reserves the right to deny access to any vehicle viewed as suspicious or not obeying the traffic rules. Violation of SCS Traffic Rules may result in a fine assessed to their school account. The safety of our students is of utmost importance. SCS reserves the right to deny access to any vehicle viewed as suspicious or not obeying the traffic rules.

Accident or Incident Procedures
Our responsibility is to the safety of the children and the guideline for all the daily events in our program. Adult supervision and safety proofing go hand-in-hand to ensure, to the best of our ability, that children can participate in daily activities without fear. However, all that we do to maintain a safe environment, children are going to get hurt. All accidents will be washed, iced (and bandaged, if necessary). It is our policy to notify at least one parent (or emergency contact person) immediately upon any accident or incident. For questionable injuries or medical concerns, 911 will be called. The Accident Notification Form (see appendix) completed by the staff must be signed by a parent within 48 hours.

Discipline
Discipline is an important part of the learning experience within our Preschool/Early Learning Development Center. It helps children learn self-control and respect for others while setting age appropriate boundaries. SCS is here to guide, be consistent and loving, yet firm. Positive re-enforcement is used such as stickers, stamps, words of praise and notes of encouragement.

If the behavior of a child becomes inappropriate, aggressive or disruptive, a parent will be notified. A conference may be requested by the teacher or director for repetitive actions. Teachers are trained to handle behavioral matters in the classroom; however, there may be some times when it is in the best interest of the child (and class) that he/she be brought to the front office. There, the child will have a private “cool-down/time-out” period until they can regain self-control, talk things out, pray and be encouraged to have a better day. An improved attitude and appropriate apologies are necessary for the child to return to class. On occasion, a parent is called to pick up their child due to repeated behavioral or emotional circumstances, but that is after every attempt has been made by staff to redirect or comfort the child (based on their needs). Rarely is a child asked to be withdrawn from the Preschool due to extenuating issues or needs that we are unable to meet.

Steps Taken Toward Positive Reinforcement
1. Prayer (group and individually)
2. Praise and Affirmation (verbal and written)
3. Redirection (of actions or activities)
4. Cool Down/Quiet Time (time to calm down in the classroom apart from the others)
5. Time Out (private time with the director or assistant to regain self-control and pray together before returning to class)

Toddlers, Twos and Threes - Daily/weekly reports will be completed by the teacher for parent reference each day. These forms will be kept in the child's folder for easy reference when you pick up your child. The completed update will be sent home every Friday. This informational form is to indicate praises, development, etc. If there are any major concerns or behavioral issues, you will be contacted personally by the teacher for further discussion.

K4 Procedures - An age-appropriate positive reinforcement “Token Incentive” procedure is used for K4 students to help motivate them to develop their good habits, manners and choices. As the staff works with all the children each day, the desire is to “catch them doing good” as “even a child is known by his actions...” Proverbs 20:11. A token will be given to a child by a teacher or the director when recognized or praised for his/her actions. The child will keep their tokens in a designated pouch. When they have earned 5 tokens, they will get to select something from the “Praise Box” or choose a special privilege (i.e., lunch with a friend, helper of the day, etc.) Tokens are only given by the teacher... not taken away. The only way a child may have to forfeit one of their own tokens is if he/she is brought to the office for a behavorial matter.

Goals to help K4 students succeed are:
1. Being a first-time listener
2. Making good choices
3. Being kind to one another
4. Showing respect to adults and one another
5. Following safety rules

Parents, you can help us by bringing in prizes for the “Praise Box”!

To keep you informed of your child’s development, a Progress Report will be sent home twice yearly (at the end of December and again at the end of May).

Emergency Procedures
In case of emergency (such as hurricanes, tropical storms, tropical watches, etc.) when school must be closed, the announcement will be made over radio station WRMB (89.3 FM) and over television channels 5, 10, 12 and 25. We will also change the voice mail message on Extension 300 (Receptionist) and Extension 326 (Preschool) will be changed to reflect the closing. SCS normally follows the same decision made by the Palm Beach County School Board and Palm Beach County Offices. Please be sure to check the late weather report before retiring for the evening before an impending storm. Severe weather/tornado drills are held periodically. Fire drills are required monthly. The fire drill signal is a regular fire department type bell. When the signal is given, all in-class activities must cease and exits made promptly.

Security
Crisis Emergency Training and Procedures have been studied and practiced with all staff and policies are continuously reviewed through in-service classes. A full-time year-round Security Guard has been extremely helpful for schoolwide safety awareness and immediate communication to all of the areas of the campus.

Application Form
An Application Form must be filled out by the parent or guardian. This form must have the signature of at least one parent and must be notarized. All Health Department required forms as well as an SCS Emergency Form must be filled out by the parent prior to the starting date of any child to school. Upon acceptance of your child into the Preschool, a registration fee is required and the starting date will be determined.

Withdrawal of Preschool Children
A parent or guardian must complete a Withdrawal Form in the Business Office on or before the final day of attendance. Remember that attendance for any part of a month (even one day) is considered the same as the entire month and is your financial responsibility. If a child is out for a month or more, the registration fee must be paid again, unless the absence is due to illness and prior arrangements have been made with the school.
