Dear
Summit Parents,
In
order to continually provide the utmost
safety for your children, a school-wide
on-campus evacuation took place today.
Upon report of a suspicious object in
what appeared to be a prank in a high
school classroom, all measures were
taken to insure that the suspicion was
unfounded. The school contacted law
enforcement immediately in accordance to
our safety procedures. The Palm Beach
County Sheriff's Office responded within
minutes, surveyed the classroom and made
the decision to evacuate all student to
the back of the campus as a precaution.
As our entire staff has been trained in
emergency procedures, implementation
went smoothly and students performed the
evacuation flawlessly. Office personnel
provided additional assistance with the
younger students. Everyone was
instructed by law enforcement to stay
off cell phones which could possibly
interfere with police investigations,
therefore, we apologize that we were
unable to communicate with parents or
the media while today's events
transpired.
We are thankful for the beautiful
weather and ample shade which allowed
the children to spend the day in a
picnic style atmosphere. Your children
were safe and secure at all times. Only
after the Sheriff's Department gave the
"all clear" did we proceed to our
classrooms.
All concerns have now been alleviated
and school will resume as normal
tomorrow, January 8, 2008. For further
questions, please contact your school
principal.
Summit Christian School would like to
thank all law enforcement for their
prompt and thorough handling of this
situation. Many officers commented on
how well our staff and students
performed. Thank you to Publix
Supermarket for their donation of
emergency food and supplies for our
students during this evacuation.

Congratulations to Mr. Wade Gill
for receiving Dr. Lundsford’s Orthodontic Office’s “best
teacher award”. Mr. Gill was nominated by Victoria Lark, a
7th grade student from Summit Christian School.
The
opportunity to nominate Mr. Gill arose while Victoria was
sitting in the waiting room of Dr. Lundsford’s office. She
noticed the contest application form and immediately thought
of her favorite teacher, Mr. Gill. “Mr. Gill is a great
educator. Even if a kid is having a tough time, he gets
with them and sits down with them and spends time working
with them. And, when they’re going through a rough time or
just having a bad day, her encourages and guides them.
He’ll stop someone if they look upset and is always someone
you can talk to”, explained Victoria.
Victoria
first came to know of Mr. Gill’s compassion for kids, when
she was a 5th grader from another school and her
brother was in Mr. Gill’s 8th grade class. The 8th
graders were having a party and Victoria, a 5th
grader was invited by Mr. Gill to join her brother at the
class party. She said, “I thought it was really cool to be
included and it made me feel really happy”.
Now,
Victoria is able to see her favorite teacher every day, as
she in Mr. Gill’s 3rd hour Bible class. And, Mr.
Gill is the happy recipient of a $100.00 award from Dr.
Lundsford’s office. Thank you, Dr. Lundsford for creating
a wonderful way to recognize outstanding teachers. Way to
go Mr. Gill! |

Summit Christian School is proud to announce this year’s selections
for Youth Leadership Palm Beach County, Megan McCloud
and Casey Ho. This dynamic county-wide leadership
development program spans seven-months and is open each year
to only 45 High School Juniors. Students are selected
according to their outstanding leadership potential and
community mindedness.
Leadership
Palm Beach County, Inc., is an educational 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization designed to foster awareness of
community issues and promote efficient communication and
cooperative relationships between existing and emerging
community leaders. The Youth program targets teens who have
already demonstrated leadership ability and desire to
further develop their skills for future roles as community
leaders.
Both Megan
and Casey are thrilled to have been chosen to represent our
school this year. After hearing the details of the program,
Casey felt “privileged to be part of this program and
excited about the places we’ll get to go to and the
experiences we’ll be having”. Megan said it’s “awesome to
be representing Summit Christian School and is looking
forward to getting to see a lot of the things that people
don’t really get to see and growing as a leader”.
Last
weekend, Casey and Megan attended the Ropes Course Retreat,
at FAU and really enjoyed meeting students from other local
schools. The experience focused teamwork and bonding. Both
Casey and Megan felt that “during the course everyone
learned to care for each other and work together, regardless
of backgrounds or the schools that the other people came
from”.
We are
really looking forward to the influence that this pair of
young Summit Christian School leaders will have on their
peers when they complete this training. |
