New Direction - What is Project Serve?

Scripture declares that there are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.  1 Corinthians 12:4-6.  1 Peter 4:10 goes on to say each should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.  It is the goal of Project Serve to give our student body, faculty and staff the opportunity to use their gifts of service  by  sharing  these  gifts,  with  the  love

of Christ, in the community.  Throughout the school year, the Summit family reaches out to those in need in a variety of community service projects coordinated through Summit Christian School, thus exposing our students and families to many different ways to use their gifts for the glory of God.

As the ministry of Summit Christian School continues to grow, the school will support additional worthy Christian organizations.

NEW!!! PTF's Project Serve Outreach Food Drive
This PTF-Organized Outreach will run from Monday, April 21-Monday, May 12th, 2008.

What is the OCA? The Oasis Compassion Agency assists families and individuals on an emergency and short-term basis us to six months, and up to one year in extreme cases. They provide food, clothing, biblical counseling, and referrals to partnering agencies for additional assistance with housing and finances.

OCA believes in empowering people so that they can be self-sufficient. The career center offers classes and training. The thrift shop provides suitable clothing (when needed) for clients to go on interviews. OCA is a non-profit, run primarily by volunteers and provides all services free of charge to its clients.

Oasis has three separate areas; the food pantry, thrift shop and career center. Presently 700 families are being helped by at least one of these areas. OCA depends entirely on donations of food, financial contributions, and thrift shop sales.

Please send in your boxed and canned goods. There will be collection containers in classrooms or designated areas.

Let's make this outreach a successful one and make a difference for families in need in our community. After all, isn't that what Christ has called us to do? Thank you in advance from the Summit Christian School PTF.

The SCS Student Council, in cooperation with C.R.O.S. ministries and WPTV, gathered 2,429 non-perishable food items for the food drive from the elementary, middle and high school classes. Once all of the food was collected, it was loaded into a truck and delivered to needy families in our area. Thank you for supporting this ministry!

Bibles for Radio Station WRMB

Gently used Bibles will be collected from all students in cooperation with radio station WRMB.  They will then be distributed to care centers, prisons and overseas missions.

Plans are to complete this project in May of 2008.
The 6th Annual Live Nativity Christmas Stroll, joyfully presented by the PTF of Summit Christian School, featured volunteer student, parent, staff and faculty members, offered a unique portrayal of the greatest story ever told. Saturday and Sunday, December 1st and 2nd from 6-9pm. Everyone was invited to bring their neighbors, family and friends as the love of Christ was shared from His humble birth to His glorious resurrection through acting and music. There was snow for the kids to play in and wonderful treats and games with prizes available in the Christmas Courtyard.

 Elementary Projects

Preschool Projects

Mrs. Garcia’s and Mrs. Whiteheart’s first grade classes went to the Darcy Hall nursing home on Dec. 4th to help spread some Christmas cheer.  They sang Christmas carols, some of the students read, and they brought the residents of Darcy Hall some special treats.  They students were very excited about reaching out to others through “Project Serve.”
Second & Third grades
collected clothing for under-resourced people living in Pahokee.  They brought in adult and children’s gently used clothing.   The clothing was collected in the individual classrooms and then Mrs. Kendall delivered the items.

LOVING GOD - LOVING PEOPLE
Elementary and preschool students decorated 1,000 placemats for Christ Fellowship and the firefighter’s Big Heart Brigade’s distribution of Thanksgiving meals to over 20,000 people.  While enjoying their Thanksgiving meal, many families will also enjoy the artwork and Christ’s message of love sent from our Summit Christian School youngsters.

Students completed Christmas cards for wounded servicemen at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. They were sent Dec. 10, 2007. Merry Christmas!
SCS Elementary Students Reach Out to Children at Orphanage - The elementary students will be sending notes and pictures to the children at the Casa Bernabe Orphanage in Vera Cruz, Nicaragua, which they wrote during their Spanish class with Mrs. Sandy Nilius. She helped the students to write encouraging messages to the orphans in Spanish. Mrs. Barbara Mackey helped students design the cards for the messages which will be delivered Dec. 20th along with 'gently used' t-shirts, shorts, jeans and sneakers for the orphanage. Our students are very excited to be blessing these children who have so little.
Missionary Flights International
Missionary Flights, International
4th and 5th grade students will be helping to load the plane to prepare it to deliver goods to the poorest of Haiti through the West Indies.  The impact of our students’ service will be felt worldwide.

200 books will be donated to kids in need! Scholastic Book Clubs runs a program called Classroomscare. In this program, when a class reads 100 books by December 21, 2007, Scholastic Book Clubs will donate 400 books to kids in need. The K5 and 1st grade classes set a goal, 100 books to read by the end of November. We did it! This is a great way to share the love of reading and make a difference!

 Secondary School

C.R.O.S. Ministries and the Salvation Army Partner with SCS Secondary Students
to Impact Our Community

The week of December 3-7, Summit Secondary School students were quite busy serving our community! On Monday, the Seniors went with Mr. Vasquez and Mr. Whiteheart to the C.R.O.S. Ministries and Salvation Army 'headquarters' to assist the organizations in various ways. The class was broken into two different groups; one went to count the red kettle donations and the Thrift Store to sort clothing and clean while the other group went to the CROS food pantry to work on computers, restock shelved, compile food bags, and interact with clientele that benefit from the food pantry. Tuesday the 6th & 7th graders went with Mr. Gill to the Salvation Army to sort & wrap presents, sort clothing, box canned food and clean up warehouse areas. Wednesday found Mr. Gill and the 8th graders out on Lake Worth Beach to perform some much needed environmental clean-up. Students collected a minimum of 30 bags of trash from the south side of the pier. Many beachgoers were well impressed with how friendly and well mannered the students were while performing a seemingly thankless task. Way to go, 8th grade! You left a positive impression out in our community! While Mr. Gill and his gang were busy on the beach, Mr. Vasquez took the Freshmen, broken into two groups, back out to the C.R.O.S. Ministries pantry and warehouse to organize the food products and stock shelves. On Thursday, the Sophomores helped in the same way as the Freshmen, continuing to work in the warehouse and pantry sorting, boxing and re-stocking non-perishable food items.

Mr. Whiteheart and the Juniors went out to Belle Glade and gleaned corn on Friday. It was a great day and the students worked so very hard, as they knew that what they were gleaning would be used by the food agencies to feed the hungry. They gleaned over 5,000 pounds of corn!!!! Isn't that awesome??? What a wonderful and rewarding week we had.

Miss Snyder’s film students’ skills will be put to work through the creation of a documentary film on the making of a beautiful Mosaic for the walls of the Armory Center.  For the “Wall Together” project, Summit’s film students will work as part of a team of Palm Beach County film students, to record and edit the documentary of the mosaic’s progress.  We’re proud to be a part of this historical wall of art!

Mrs. Noble’s 7th grade science classes and Mr. Brustkern’s AP Biology classes will exercise good stewardship by taking an active part in restoring the Florida Everglades.  They will volunteer for the Art Marshall Foundation as “Ambassadors to the Everglades”.  Our Summit Ambassadors will take a trip to Torry Island, in Lake Okeechobee and help to restore an historic pond apple forest.  They will also develop an appreciation for South Florida and the Greater Everglades Ecosystem through pre-visit and post-visit training.   What an adventurous way to serve our community!

Miss Snyder’s Film Students will be sharing their filming skills with the community as they shoot video of the relocation of precious historical archives from the Island of Palm Beach to their new home in the Courthouse.
Project Serve Student Testimonies
We bagged rice to give to the people that were there. I also helped people take the food out to their cars. We did over one hundred bags of rice and we fed a LOT of people! I had a good time while we were there. I hope we can go again. ~ Drew Nilius I had a lot of fun working for Project Serve. We went to a storage place in Boynton Beach and we sorted cans. At McDonalds, the store manager gave us free ice cream for helping the community! On the ride home we were all tired, but it was worth it. We made a good team and I had a lot of fun, and I think we should do it again soon. ~ Renatta Zarro My day doing community service was pretty chill. We put a whole bunch of food and toiletries into boxes. It was kinda cool helping! It would be nice to keep it going on for years to come.

Thanks to everyone who is supporting our efforts of ministry through Project Serve! God bless you!

(Working at the food pantry,) when I saw some of those people that were sick and they had their kids with them, it made me want to give them all the food they needed. I feel that I helped the people there because we created food bags for the people. I believe what I did helped out all of the poor and homeless people.
~ Taylor Mirrione
It felt really good to help the people who are less fortunate than others. My group had a lot of fun sorting the food into boxes and working together. I think we should do these projects more often.
