Graduation Requirements, Guidance Advice and College Prep Info
Graduation Requirements    |    Community Service Hours     |    Helpful Sites

Dear Parents,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Minia Cain and I am your student’s guidance advisor. I have been a teacher at Summit Christian School since 1997 and I am extremely excited to serve our Lord, Summit Christian, you, and your student in the guidance department.

There is much information available to the parents of college bound students in our guidance office and on this web page. We have information on scholarships, college financing, SAT and ACT preparation, SAT and ACT testing, college application procedures, dual enrollment, and much more. We encourage the parents of juniors and seniors to make an appointment with the guidance office, before the end of October, to discuss your student’s future plans and how we may assist them in achieving those plans. Scholarships that can be obtained through my office are updated on this page as they become available.

SAT and ACT preparation classes are being offered to all Summit Christian students beginning on Monday, Sept. 17. There will be no charge for these classes, but students interested in taking them need to sign up with Mrs. Cain or Coach Carter. The classes will be on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:00-6:00 pm.

Community Service is also very important to colleges and to Summit Christian School. It is our duty as Christians to serve one another. With that in mind, all students at Summit Christian School are required to complete twenty-five hours of community service, per year, from the 9th to the 12th grade. Documentation of these hours must be presented to the guidance office before graduation.

Any student who has completed a dual enrollment class needs to bring a transcript of the grade to the guidance office. This transcript will allow Summit to give the student high school credit for the class.

All male students who have reached the age of eighteen must register with the Selective Service. Information on the registration process is available in the guidance office.

I pray that this introduction has answered some of the questions that you may have as the parent of a college bound student. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at (561) 686-8081, ext. 318. I look forward to meeting with you soon.

In His Service,

Minia Cain

Early planning provides a
continued incentive for high school students to work hard in preparation for their future.

  Community Service Hours

A student will receive no credit for a course when the course is unsatisfactorily completed. Special arrangements may be made (subject to the approval of the teacher and Principal).

To be the valedictorian or salutatorian of the graduating class, a student must have been a full-time student at SCS for his final four (4) consecutive semesters, and have good spiritual and disciplinary standards.

Community Service Hours (totaling 100) are required for graduation. It is recommended that they be acquired 25 per year beginning after promotion from the 8th grade. Any students entering after the 9th grade will have their hours prorated.

NOTE: Although 2 consecutive years of a foreign language are not required by the state of Florida to graduate, they are required for acceptance to most colleges and universities.
